History of Inner Darkness

Thank you for visiting the official itch.io page for Inner Darkness. Inner Darkness was first created on 4/24/15 on RPG Maker VX Ace. It featured a young man named, Jake, who ventures into different worlds both helping to save the locals from a menacing evil plague and discovering its roots. He meets some unorthodox friends along the way who help him in his journey. Jake has a mysterious connection to the plague and is able to control his inner darkness and use it to transform into a hostile and powerful beast.

As time went on I wanted to touch up on a social concern that deserves more attention, mental health awareness. Jake's alter ego, Dark Jake, feeds off of his negative energy and emotions such as sadness, anger, rage, fear, and jealously. Dark Jake often comes uninvited and puts thoughts or ideas in his head to help generate negative energy. Jake tells his friends ever since Dark Jake entered his life he's been feeling more tired, drained, empty, and lost interest in a lot of hobbies and passions he used to enjoy. His alter ego can be seen as a symbol for depression and/or schizophrenia. With support from his loved ones, connecting back to his passions, and a lot of self-healing he is able to silence Dark Jake and weaken his influence.

I aim to make Inner Darkness a fun, bright gaming experience reminiscent of old-school jrpgs while also shedding more light on mental health and our abilities to raise above them.
